Our Taxco, Mexico

Our first home will probably forever be Taxco because of its people, its architecture, its silver and silversmiths. Our home is in the very center of town, an apartment in a four Ex Conventohundred year old building first constructed as the Spanish custom's office for trade goods arriving from Acapulco on their way to Mexico City. A ruin at the beginning of the 20th century, the building was used by expatriate William Spratling as his workshop for making silver jewelry, for weaving, and furniture making. Much later it was adapted as a residence. It is one of Taxco's colonial architectural treasures.

Centrally located, you will be just two minutes from the lovely zocolo with its renowned Santa Prisca church, its restaurants and shops. Walking just a few minutes more, you'll find yourself in the meandering market area.

The entrance to our apartment though tall wooden doors is into our large kitchen. It has a great stove and fridge, tableware, good pots and pans, and all the things you'll need to make a meal at home. From the kitchen you'll walk outside across a tile covered passageway with flowering plants and garden herbs into our favorite space--the living room. Its sixteen foot high One Apt View , Kathleen & Stassi At Homewooden ceiling is supported by four square crossbeams each made from a single tree. The room itself is 36 by 15 feet with areas for dining and relaxing. There is a full bookshelf, a TV, a VCR, and a telephone for your use.

Walk through the bathroom at the end of the living room into the comfortable and quiet bedroom. The window of this room faces the interior courtyard of the building so it is more quiet for sleeping than you might find elsewhere in Taxco, especially in the center of town. Bed and bath linens will be on the ample shelving where you may store your clothing and there is also a wrought iron hanging rack.

The floors throughout the apartment are traditional ochre colored tile and all of the ceilings are of wood. Some of our artwork and playful Mexican crafts decorate the rooms. This is our primary residence and we have found it very comfortable and very secure.
