Do the
pieces in this collection come with safety closures?
Yes, all pieces that require special security come with added
safety closures.
Do you
undertake repairs?
Yes, all the work is guaranteed.
What do
the markings mean?
We mark all of our pieces with the initials of the original
designer, the initials of the silversmith that produces the work,
980 which is the quality of silver we use, and "by Krika" to
indicate that the quality of the reproduction is under our control.
What do
the references mean?
These are relatively recent books that photographically display
these designs. We abstracted some of our designs from photographs
of the original pieces. You will note that our "Ovals & Circles" design
by Hector Aguilar differs from the photograph in the book (Silver Masters of Mexico, p. 65). The author and photographer
were in error. The necklace was photographed in-side-out. We produced
the original design correctly.
What is
so special about these designs?
One of the wonderful qualities of jewelry is that not only
does it enhance your appearance making you look more beautiful,
it feels so right that you feel more beautiful. That is the special
quality of this work. You will not only look terrific, you will
feel terrific wearing it.
What does
980 mean?
Sterling silver is a mix of pure silver and pure copper. Pure
silver is a very soft metal--it dents, bends, and loses its original
form. With added copper, silver becomes harder. Standard sterling
silver is 925, meaning it is a mix of 925 parts of silver mixed
with 75 parts of copper. That is today's standard around the world.
When the first wonderful Taxco designers began working, they did
not have the machinery to work with very hard metals, like today's
sterling. They worked with purer silver because of its malleability.
Their hand tools were adequate to turn the metal into jewelry.
One of the wonderful features of working with more pure silver
is that the jewelry does not tarnish as quickly and it has a more
brilliant shine than sterling. Its softness means it will take
on a patina of wear that is your personal impact on these pieces.
You will make them truly your own.
